Meet Michael from Mr Minit
If you’ve ever locked yourself out, worn through your favourite shoes or needed a gift engraved in a hurry, Michael from Mister Minit has probably saved your day. With over 20 years of hands on experience and a sharp sense of humour to match, Michael is the go to guy at Wanneroo Central.
Get to know Michael!
What’s in season or really popular right now with shoppers?
Right now, it’s all about shoe repairs. The wet weather has uncovered a lot of hidden holes and damage, so people are digging out their boots and bringing them in for some much needed TLC.
What’s your favourite thing in the centre at the moment?
Well, I don’t actually sell coffee but if I did, I’d say that. Honestly though, I enjoy the variety of tools and machines I get to work with. Every day is hands-on and different.
What’s the best part of your job?
The interaction with customers, hands down. I never know what someone’s going to walk in with. One minute I’m engraving a gift, the next I’m repairing a much loved pair of shoes. The variety keeps it interesting.
Do you have local customers you know by name, or like to have a chat with?
Absolutely. I’ve got regulars who come in not just for services but for a chat and a catch up. It makes work more personal and a lot more enjoyable.
Name two things you like most about working at Wanneroo Central.
The friendly people and the relaxed environment. It’s a great place to run a business and be part of the community.
Do you have a favourite time of year in the centre and if so, why?
Spring and summer. When the weather’s warmer, people seem happier and the centre just feels more vibrant.
Can you tell us a little about Mr Minit and what inspired you to join them?
My store offers a bit of everything key cutting, shoe repairs, engraving, sharpening, watch repairs. When the opportunity came up to take on the Mister Minit franchise, it felt like a natural next step.
What do you think sets Charter Hall apart from others in the industry?
The centre management here is genuinely supportive. They actually listen when tenants raise something and they work with us to sort things out. That kind of partnership isn’t something you get everywhere.
What is the first thing you do when you come into work every day?
I unlock and set up all the displays. It’s a bit of a routine and gets me set for the day.
Do you think your shop or service helps make customers’ lives easier? If so, how?
Definitely. Whether it’s getting a key cut so someone can get into their house or repairing the only decent pair of work shoes they have, I’m helping solve everyday problems.
If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one quality or ability, what would it be?
The ability to understand women. But let’s be honest, that would probably change the next day anyway!
